Lake Titicaca
septembre 11th, 2009 by admin

The lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world at approximately 3800 meters. The lake and its islands are rich in history and local people won’t miss a chance to try to drag you into their stories for a few “bolivianos”.

The lake was the site where the Inca legend was created and the site of an advanced civilisation that predated the Incas. The lake created a microclimate which allowed efficient agricultural production, such as potato cultivation and llama rearing, one of the main ressources of the Incas.

The Sun and Moon island were the sanctuaries of the Incas. Copacabana was constructed in 1588.

If you join the teaching program, you might only have time to see the Sun island and its magic. It is preferable to stay a night on the island, because Copacabana is really only a shopping market and that the island’s scenery is awesome at sunset and sunrise. Make sure not to forget your cameras and warm clothes (as well as you alcool, cheaper on the mainland)!

There are many places where you can stay at on the island, for different prices. You can find a very comfortable lounge for only 10$ a night per person.

This place is known for its magic. It is a very spiritual and calm place where you can have a break from the busy streets of La Paz.
